What Is Myobrace®?

Myobrace® is a custom-fitted mouthpiece intended to fit over your teeth like a sports mouthguard, offering gradual adjustment of both your child's jaw shape and teeth shape over time. Children must wear their Myobrace® while sleeping and for one hour during the daytime hours.

Due to children's bodies still developing and shifting, Myobrace® provides flexible adjustment without the use of brace brackets and wires commonly associated with traditional braces. A Myofunctional Dentistry Approach

Myobrace® plays an invaluable role in myofunctional dentistry, which addresses improper oral behaviors due to an improper jaw structure. This innovative device can assist in controlling and correcting various behavioral functions including:

Breathing through the mouth instead of the nose; and, having improper swallowing patterns. Tongue thrusting habits Myobrace® can help your child learn proper oral behavior with regular wear over a specified time period, providing subconscious correction of habits such as tongue thrusting. The appliance helps develop proper tongue positioning, nasal breathing patterns and swallowing by supporting its design which promotes tongue positioning, nasal breathing patterns and proper swallowing patterns.

Dr. Nadia Pokrovskaya and our team will collaborate with your child to teach specific exercises they must complete twice daily for two minutes each. Using engaging tools and techniques, our exercises are made enjoyable so as to avoid chore-like monotony; adjustments will be made every two to six weeks according to individual needs.
